HUSSARD NOIR

I've come across the term Hussard Noir, a name given by Charles Peguy referring to the first public school teachers following the 1881 Jules Ferry laws that created a free, secular, and obligatory schooling for every citizen of France.

The teacher's mandated uniform, a balck version of The French military uniform, emphasized the importance of their work educating and transmitting the values of republican schooling. Hussards Noirs are soldiers of the civilian world, defender of thought.

For me, transmission is an essential value : I want to share a know-how and a critical spirit. With this collection, I wanted to pay tribute to the values of teaching, working on the basis of military designs made for our everyday life.
